Why use an independent agent?

Let's face it: Insurance can be a complex subject. Many consumers have questions about insurance that they are hesitant to ask. When it comes to protecting your family and assets no question should go unasked, no matter how basic it is.  The only bad questions is the one not asked and an informed consumer is a good consumer.

As an independent agent we are able to provide the personal attention to ensure that the host of circumstances that may impact your insurance needs are considered. We have the expertise to answer your questions and will take the time to make sure you understand all aspects of your policies.

We know you, your family and your business.

As your independent agent we work for you and represent numerous insurance companies, we know exactly what options are available in the market. We will ask probing questions and make carrier and coverage recommendations tailored to your unique needs.

You may have a special need or may be eligible for unique discounts that only certain carriers offer. Good savings can be found - including discounts and credits on auto insurance for driving a hybrid vehicle, having multiple cars on a policy or being a good student - and agents can help you take advantage of these discounts. What's more, you'll have one main contact for all of your insurance needs.

Remember, it's not always about finding the lowest premium; it's about having the coverage you need to protect your family, business and assets. Bottom line: there is nothing more valuable than a consultative agent who considers your interests when shopping for coverage.

For first time home buyers

As soon as you are in the market to purchase a home contact your current carrier or agent to start the comparative rating review.  Be prepared to provide a copy of the home inspection report to allow the agent to get the proper information on the house for proper credits and pricing.   Also this is a good time to look at your current auto insurance to be sure you have adequate limits in place to properly protect your new home (equity in the down payment  and future equity as the mortgage is paid off and the house appreciates in value).

Some good tips prior to deciding on the actual purchase:

* Is the roof under 20 years old?  Many carriers have a maximum roof life requirement—some   are 25 years. The newer the roof the better the credits.

* Does the house have Circuit Breakers? If not you will be limited in markets as most preferred carriers will require them.

* Is there an oil tank?  Not an issue unless it is underground.

* Is there a pool? Not an issue so long as it is fenced in or has a retractable ladder.   If there is a slide or diving board again not a deal breaker but it will limit carrier placement.  (Again being independent with over a dozen carriers to look at not an issue)

* Take the time to do your research on the insurance protection.  Far too often new homebuyers call several days before a closing and do not get the benefit of the advanced quote discounts and ability to provide documentation to receive additional credits.
