Spotlight on Fort Myers Downtown River District
Did you know that the brick-paved streets of the Fort Myers River District won the 2012 International Making Cities Livable (IMCL) Walkable Neighborhoods Award, ranking first over cities worldwide for creating an inviting, healthy environment for foot traffic?
Think about it; The Fort Myers River District is filled with charming restaurants, shops, art galleries and performing arts venues. There are over 56 restaurants and nightclubs, 25 galleries and other cultural spots and over 40 unique shops and boutiques.
The riverfront has become a focal point for all types of gatherings and social events, the marina is scheduled to be enlarged and there are plans to improve the parks and outdoor public spaces.
Just look at the calendar of events for The River District…a monthly Art Walk, Music Walk and Cruise-In; the Edison Festival of Light and all the associated events; the Fort Myers Film Festival; the international Art Walks the Runway fashion show; SW Florida Reading Festival…and that’s only for January through March!
There is also alot of new development on the horizon in the River District. Allure, The Place on First, Cypress Club, The Vue...
So my recommendation is this...put on your walking shoes and take a stroll Downtown! You might not know what you're missing!
