March is full of activity, sunshine, excitement, and the official arrival of spring! Plus, there are plenty of events that make the month that much brighter. Take a look at these exciting events taking place in and around Sacramento this month — from concerts and plays to beer festivals and craft fairs.

Sacramento Home & Garden Show
March 2–4 | Cal Expo

In the first weekend of March, the Sacramento Home & Garden Show is taking over Cal Expo. This three-day event provides a rare opportunity to meet and learn from top local experts in a casual, comfortable and pressure-free environment. You can see up close the latest products and techniques in landscaping, gardening, patios, fencing, decks, heating and air, solar, plumbing, kitchens, baths, lighting, roofing, windows, pools, spas, and much more.

Visit the Sacramento Home & Garden Show Friday 12–6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.–6 p.m., or Sunday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Admission is $7 per person or $6 with a can of food for local food banks, and free for kids 12 and under.

 

Cork & Fork
Friday, March 2 | Rancho Cordova City Hall

Cork & Fork is an evening of food and wine benefitting the Folsom Cordova Community Partnership. Taste wines sourced from wineries throughout the region and sample foods from many of the area’s best-known restaurants and caterers. While you wine and dine, enjoy live music and a spectacular silent auction showcasing a variety of items such as fine art, exotic getaways, unique home decor, and much more. Purchase your tickets for $25 online or $40 at the door!

This is a vital annual fundraiser for the Folsom Cordova Community partnership, which provides a wide range of programs targeted at reducing the risk of child abuse as well as helping families to self-sufficiency.

 

Capitol Beer Fest
Saturday, March 3 | Capitol Mall Greens
The 8th Annual Capitol Beer Fest is returning to Capitol Mall for another exception beer-centric celebration. Enjoy four hours of over 125 of the nation’s best brewers, 20 food trucks and live music. 100 percent of the proceeds from Capitol Beer Fest go to the Runnin’ for Rhett Youth Fitness Program, a program designed to combat childhood obesity in at-risk youth by educating young people and their families on fitness and nutrition.

Keep in mind that tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be available for purchase at the gate. VIP tickets are $65, general admission tickets are $40, and non-drinker tickets are $15.

 

Midtown Bizarre
Saturday, March 10 | Identity Coffees

Visit Identity Coffees in Midtown for this creative, local-focused event. Grab a friend, sip on a delicious coffee, and shop from local vendors selling an array of one-of-a-kind treasures. Make this part of your monthly schedule, as Midtown Bizarre takes place the second Saturday of every month! Wizard of Oz
March 10–31 | Davis Musical Theatre Co. Performing Arts Center
See the Young Performers’ Theatre team at the Davis Musical Theater Co. Performing Arts Center put on an enchanting performance of the classic “Wizard of Oz” story. Join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion and Toto as they travel the universe of Dorothy’s vibrant imagination. The show is perfect for audiences of all ages! Tickets for the show are $8.

 

St. Baldrick’s Day

This annual event provides an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those suffering from cancer. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the US government. Participants in St. Baldrick’s Day can support their mission by shaving their head, volunteering or donating — all of which benefits this amazing organization. Our local St. Baldrick’s Day event is hosted by Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance and is taking place at de Vere’s Irish Pub on March 12 from 5–9 p.m.

 

Lorde Concert
Monday, March 12 | Golden 1 Center
Lorde is making a stop at Golden 1 Center on her Melodrama World Tour. After a highly anticipated wait, Lorde is back on tour after the release of Melodrama, her sophomore album. Don’t miss this exciting show from Grammy award-winning multi-platinum artist, Lorde, and special guests, Run the Jewels and Tove Styrke. Tickets are on sale now!

 

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Saturday, March 17 | Old Sacramento

Head to Old Sacramento on St. Patrick’s Day (which falls on a Saturday this year!) for one of the city’s most beloved traditions. The 22nd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Paradefeatures hundreds of colorful marchers dressed in green, Irish and Highland dancers, pipe and drum bands, historic re-enactors, and a variety of cultural organizations — all marching through this historic landmark district.

The parade begins promptly at 1 p.m. from Neasham and Front Streets. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is considered one of the largest in all of Northern California, drawing thousands to the streets of Old Sacramento to celebrate this beloved Irish holiday.

 

Sac Republic Game
Saturday, March 17 | Papa Murphy’s Park
Experience the excitement at Papa Murphy’s Park as Republic FC opens the 2018 USL season on St. Patrick’s Day. After a few pre-season friendlies, this game against San Antonio FC is the first official game of the season! If you can’t make it to this match, check out their schedule and make plans to go to another game down the road.

 

The Food Truck Challenge
Thursday, March 22 | California Museum

Witness three of Sacramento’s top food trucks battle it out to see who can create the best taco. Saturday at the Farm

The popular Fun on the Farm event at Soil Born Farms is completely full, but you may still head to the farm for a day of activity on the 24th! Soil Born Farms is hosting their winter pop-up farmstand, an American River Herb Walk, and a Bird Walk. Be a part of the excitement at this urban farm teeming with activity and farm-fresh produce.

Interested in a new way to get fit and work up a sweat? Experience a day in the life of a farmer with the many volunteer activities happening at Soil Born Farms on March 24 from 9:30 a.m.–12:45 p.m. Help with seasonal tasks and learn about the daily work required to maintain an organic farm.

 

The Avett Brothers Concert
