Mike started in the mortgage industry in 1999 after being in and around the auto industry while growing up. He soon found he had a true passion for helping clients to purchase or refinance their homes. He has worked in all facets of the mortgage industry from origination, outside account representative to operations. In 2007, he launched Bailey & Wood Financial Group, now a direct lender. From the beginning, Mike wanted his mortgage company to focus on family, so he named part of the company after his oldest daughter Bailey. This serves as a constant reminder of why all the hard work was necessary, and that each of his clients likely has family of their own which they want to support through excellent long-term investments and choices. Bailey & Wood started out with one location in Mike’s hometown of Whiteland, and now has eighteen locations throughout Indiana.
Bailey & Wood offers a full array of mortgage loan products, from first time homebuyer programs to refinances. An impressive 98% of their business comes from past clients and Realtor-based referrals. What keeps their real estate agent clients coming back? “It’s our work ethic and our amazing staff which is dedicated to delivering the best service in the industry,” Mike says. His loan officers and operations staff work in staggered shifts so that someone is always ready to serve their clients. As a result of the expert service they provide, for the past three years, Bailey & Wood has averaged 14.3 days from application to closing for their clients. “We focus on pushing things through while making the process as simple and stress free as possible,” he says. Bailey & Wood stays in close contact with past clients and Realtor partners by providing helpful information and market updates through blogs, social media, and newsletters.
What’s Mike’s favorite part of his work? “I love seeing employees who really buy into the company and what we stand for while achieving their personal goals. And I love the competitive nature of the industry,” he said. “I love focusing on bringing a unique approach different than other lenders, while providing a great work atmosphere for our employees which has earned us honors multiple years as a Top Workplace in Indiana among small businesses as mentioned in the Indianapolis Star. It means so much to be to be part of the community and being worthy of referrals. That’s what motivates me.” To give back to the community, Bailey & Wood has a “Hometown Hero” program honoring those who deserve recognition. They are involved in fundraising for many local charitable organizations throughout Indiana as well as many school corporations. He hopes he can leave behind a legacy in which his children, Bailey, Wrigley, Walker, and Wife Erin can say they were proud of what he did for others more than anything.
