I cannot ‘recommend” any one lender and you are free to choose whomever you want to hire. However, here is a list of some lenders that have excellent reputations for honesty and integrity and with whom I have done business with for many years.

 Be aware that the interest rate quoted on line or by other lenders may be a “teaser” rate to get you committed and then you realize there are many other fees that raise the cost for the transaction.

Builders often have their “preferred lenders’ with which they may pay some closing costs on the Buyer’s behalf if they use that lender. This is usually a good deal for the Buyer.

 However, to be able to present an offer on a home you need to obtain a PRE-APPROVAL letter BEFORE you spend time looking at homes. Many surprises with the new lender policies have caused Buyers to change their expectations or not be able to afford the home they picked out.

Did you know you cannot be past due on a student loan and get a mortgage? Agents will not present an offer to their Seller without this letter. This does not mean you have to stay with that lender but it is generally expected since they did work on your behalf.

 Your decision as to which loan you choose is complicated by your credit score, down payment, goals in life, finances and mental attitude about debt. A good loan officer can guide you through the choices and process your loan with the lease amount of hassle. Keep in mind “He who has the gold makes the rules” so any  lender may ask you for the seemingly most trivial of items but you will have to comply to get the loan.

 Most of my lenders do not mind being called in the evenings or weekends and have provided their cell phone numbers for that purpose.
